A Strategy for Change

A proven way to get major constitutional change is by referendum. Small parties vying for seats achieve very little because all the power in our current system is focussed on just one person, the Prime Minister. Even parties with a long history cannot make any headway against the Conservative and Labour parties.

However, a party standing for such constitutional change can force the governing party to concede a referendum they do not really want to have. This is exactly how the Brexit referendum was achieved and very similar to the way the Scottish independence referendum came about.

It’s important to note that this is a strategy that works.

The question then, is can we gain enough electoral support over time to convince the government to concede a referendum? We’ll never know until we try. The Fairer Voting Party marks the beginning of the process.
