Tactical Voting

Tactical voting takes two forms, both of which are mitigated by F2PTP-IND.

Firstly, there’s the effect of the FPTP voting system which tend to draw your vote towards either the Labour Party or the Conservative Party and the tendency to vote for the least bad option to stop the worst option from winning.

Under F2PTP-IND there are two winners thereby making it hard to choose who to vote against, as you only have one vote.

The second form takes the shape of withdrawing from an election to boost the chances of another party who you think your voters might support if your party isn’t standing. The largest instance of this was The Brexit Party standing down candidates in 2019 to boost the Conservative’s chances.

When second place counts, withdrawing could be a mistake as your party can also win, hence not so attractive an option.
