The new voting system (F2PTP-IND) means that, as a minimum, one and a half times as many people get the MP they voted for. This is a significant increase in representation.
I say minimum because I have applied the voting system to two real elections (2010, 2015) and the increase above occurred in those elections even though when people voted, second place didn’t count for anything, whereas in F2PTP-IND it results in being elected.
When people know that second place also counts, they are likely to be more willing to cast their vote for who they really want as opposed to who they dislike the most.
When the elected MPs cast a vote in Parliament they will cast the number of votes they received in the election and not just one, regardless of how many people voted for them, as is the case now
